I want to say hi and introduce myself. I am a full time acoustic builder and run a full-service repair and setup shop in Kansas City, MO. This looks like a great place and I am looking forward to participating and learning. Here is a photo of my last completed build, finished in June 2014:

Welcome, Greg, I think you will find this is a pretty nice forum to learn as well as to share your knowledge with others.
That is a beauty of a guitar you have there. Care to share more details about it?

I think you will find that this is a great place to hang out.

Cheers,
Bob

Hi Greg, welcome, from about 4,086 miies across the pond.
Good to see you taking an interest in the forum.
I like the rosette too.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Thanks for all the kind words! Dennis, let's connect.

Bob, here are some more details about the guitar:

Model: Monarch
Oregon Myrtle back and sides
Sitka top
Ebony binding, fretboard and bridge
Spalted Maple and Ovangkol rosette
Gotoh tuners

The Monarch is a medium sized guitar with a 15 7/8" bout, having a slimmer waist and curvier shoulders than a dread. More photos can be seen at http://dogwoodguitars.com/the-monarch/
